One hundred degree heat. Trudging through two foot high grass, with only a one-foot wide trail, all floating on an island of mud, surrounded by a winding river just wide enough that it’s not possible to jump over. Four ounces of water left, and three miles of walking until getting back to camp.

This was the end of my summer vacation.

And as crazy as it sounds, I voluntarily chose to do this. In fact, I paid to do this.

After you’re fully under the assumption I must have some self-mutilation fetish, I will spend the rest of this article proving you wrong, and that apparently this experience has actually helped me in life.
